Traffic Management Center Annual Report
Fiscal Year 2007 (July 2006 - June 2007)
Introduction:
This report describes the operation and specific activities of the Kansas City Scout
Traffic Management Center (TMC). Activities for Fiscal Year 2006 (July 2006 - June
2007) are detailed in this report.
Operations Summary:
Incidents
- The TMC actively responded to 4,129 incidents, representing a 22% increase compared to FY 2006
- 138 were Level 3 incidents with an average duration of 313 minutes
- 1,639 were Level 2 incidents with an average duration of 55 minutes
- 1,286 were Level 1 incidents with an average duration of 17 minutes
- 1,055 were scheduled roadwork
- 306 were within a work zone
- 11 were Ozone Alerts
- 9 were AMBER Alerts
- 327 involved big rigs
- 437 involved injuries
- 23 involved fatalities
- 58 involved DOT property damage
- 53 could be classified as secondary incidents
- 359 cited bad weather as a possible contributing factor
- TMC responded to 15,286 false incident alarms
- The TMC responded to 218 incidents on the I-70 corridor in Missouri outside the Scout area (not included in the above statistics)
Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
- 9,559 activations
- 16,543 DMS messages were displayed
Web Site Messages
- 6,299 total messages were placed for incidents, including 1,288 for roadwork
Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) Useage
Equipment Operability
- On average, 90% of the CCTV cameras were completely operational
- On average, 98% of the DMS were completely operational
- On average, 79% of the Detector Stations were completely operational, with 7% reporting some bad detectors. The remaining stations either reported all bad detectors or were not responding
Additional Information
- TMC operators logged 7,902 telephone calls with partner agencies.
- Customer Service Representatives logged 23,154 contacts from external and internal sources, including phone calls, E-mails, and walk-ins
- The Scout Web Site received 352,962 visits
