Scout Traffic Operations Center Annual Report
Fiscal Year 2006 (July 2005 - June 2006)

Introduction:

This report describes the operation and specific activities of the Kansas City Scout Traffic Operations Center (TOC). Activities for Fiscal Year 2006 (July 2005 - June 2006) are detailed in this report.

Operations Summary:

Incidents

  • TOC actively responded to 3,378 incidents
  • 54 were within work zones
  • 199 involved Big Rigs
  • 306 involved injuries
  • 26 involved fatalities
  • 25 possible secondary incidents
  • 156 indicated bad weather as a possible contributing factor

Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)

  • 7,919 activations
  • 12,643 messages were displayed

Web Site Messages

  • 3,880 total messages were posted to the web site including 1,315 for roadwork

Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) Useage

  • Activated 16 times

Equipment Operability

  • On average, 78% of the Cameras were completely operational
  • On average, 90% of the DMS were completely operational
  • On average, 52% of the Detector Stations were completely operational, 10% partly functional, 38% non-functional or undetermined

Additional Information

  • TOC operators logged 6,267 telephone calls with partner agencies
  • The Scout Website received 254,643 visits
