Supporting Technologies

KC Scout's Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) manages traffic and provides information to travelers in the area that an incident affects. KC Scout's Traffic Management System relies on a network of more than 145 closed circuit television cameras, 39 dynamic message signs, hundreds of data producing sensors, and a Highway Advisory Radio system to provide motorists with the latest in real-time traffic and roadway information covering more than 100 miles of freeway in and around the Kansas City Metro.

With evolving technologies and a desire to develop more creative and innovative ways to disseminate vital traffic information, KC Scout uses several tools to communicate traffic information including:

  • This interactive website.

  • Public/private partnerships.

  • My KC Scout Web Alerts.

  • My KC Scout Web Alerts.

The newest tools, ramp meters on the south I-435 corridor and the Master Vehicle Mover, have moved KC Scout forward in its goal to operate and preserve a world class transportation management system.

Motorist Assist and Emergency Response operators are trained to use the Master Vehicle Mover (MVM). KC Scout's MVM has been used to help with weather-related accident clearance involving more than 30 vehicles at once.
